An up-and-coming rock band have certainly had some memorable times in Glasgow.

From getting a free brew from a Scientologist to their van breaking down just 30 minutes before they were due on stage, The Howlers have found the city to be an unforgettable place with some great fans.

Glasgow Times:

Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Adam Young, vocalist and guitarist for the East London trio, said: “Last time we played in the city our van decided to break down like 30 minutes before we were due to go on Broadcast's stage.

“I think we were at like the bottom of Sauchiehall Street and our van just conked out. Everything decided to stop working.

“We had to abandon the van on the street and we came back to it covered in parking tickets.

“I remember as well, another time I came out after the gig and there was a Scientology table across the street from the venue.

“It was like a Saturday night; everyone was out partying, and this table was giving out free cups of tea and I really fancied one. It was a good cup of tea, so fair play.”

Despite the commotions during their past visits, the band – which also consists of drummer Cameron Black, and bassist Guus Ter Braak – is looking forward to returning to Glasgow when they play Assai Records in the city centre next month.

Ahead of the gig on May 10, Adam said: “We’re really looking forward to playing in Glasgow again.

“We love playing shows in Scotland, it’s always been a really good market for us which is nice because Scotland is so far away from home (East London). When we go there and play sold-out shows (like their Broadcast and King Tut’s gigs) it just feels really cool.”

Glasgow Times:

The Assai Records gig will support the band’s debut album What You've Got to Lose to Win It All which is set to be released on May 17.

It will be the band’s first significant piece of work after releasing a number of singles and two EPs The Sum Of Our Fears and Further Down The Line, since forming in 2019.

Speaking on the new material, which consists of 15 tracks, Adam said it is like nothing anyone has heard before.

He added: “The album is great, I’m looking forward to getting it out. We’re also nervous though, which I think is probably a good thing.

“On the opening track, you’ll hear mariachi trumpets and lots of strings. We created it to feel like you’re in a film or watching one.

“Every song starts with a big entrance and a story follows – that’s how we unintentionally structured it. But films were our big inspiration for this and it’s cinematic. We’re very proud of it.”
