Zurawski: wanted by former club
Zurawski: wanted by former club

WISLA KRAKOW want Celtic striker Maciej Zurawski back to lead their attack.

The Polish club - who sold the striker to Celtic for £2.2million just over two years ago - are reported to have approached the Parkhead club with a proposal for a loan deal until the end of the season.

As revealed in SportTimes last week, Marseille also have Zurawski in their sights as they see him as the perfect partner for Djibril Cisse, and the French club could make their move within the next few days.

But Krakow are confident they have a huge advantage in the race to move Zurawski out of Parkhead as he is such an icon at the club where he scored 95 goals in 153 games before moving to Celtic.

Although Zurawski is understood to be willing to take a drop in wages to get back to regular first-team football, finding the transfer fee it would take to buy him - he still has two seasons of his contract to run - from Celtic would be a stumbling block for the Polish club.

Which is why they have come to Celtic with the proposal of a loan deal. With Zurawski currently struggling to get a game in Gordon Strachan's side - he didn't even make the bench for the 3-1 weekend win at Aberdeen - Wisla reckon their timing might be perfect.

But, while Zurawski - who turns 31 in three weeks - admits he would like to head back to the club where he made his name, for now he is prepared to stay at Celtic and battle to regain his first team place.

He told Polish journalists: "I can't talk about transfer speculation, but it would be nice to be back in Krakow for a while.

"A loan is possible in January, but just now I want to fight for my place at Celtic."

After a disappointing season, in which they finished a bitterly disappointing eighth, Wisla - who won the championship in each of the three seasons before Zurawski left in 2005 - chairman Marek Wilczek and coach Maciej Skorza are trying to turn back the clock.

They have already re-signed midfielder Kamil Kosowski, a friend and national team-mate of Zurawski who has had spells with Southampton and Kaiserslautern.

And Wisla are also trying to add another of Zurwaski's closest friends, Miroslaw Szymkoviak - who was linked with a move to Celtic last year - to their squad after things went sour for the free-kick specialist at Turks Trabzonspor.

All of which could yet make a return to the club where he spent five happy seasons very attractive to Zurawski.

Meanwhile, reports say the Hoops hope to seal a £450,000 deal for Trinidad and Tobago international Khaleem Hyland later today.

The 18-year-old Soca Warrior midfielder, who has also been attracting interest from German cracks Bayern Munich, impressed Celtic football development boss John Park in a closed-door game. It is understood Park has followed that up with a three-year offer for the San Juan Jabloteh star.

The Hoops have also had Hyland's international team-mates Lester Peltier and Atullah Guerra on trial, but both have injuries.
