Demonstrators gathered in George Square on Saturday afternoon to protest Glasgow's Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

The controversial second phase of the LEZ came into force on June 1, banning vehicles from the city centre that do not comply with emissions standards (Euro 6 for diesel cars, Euro 4 for petrol).

Organisers of the demonstration claim: "For decades the NOx levels didn't bother politicians, eventually these levels will be reduced as older cars are being replaced by newer models.

"Yet, some politicians suddenly think this isn't good enough hence causing economic and societal disruption."

The protest comes as garage owner William Paton was given the green light to challenge the scheme at the Court of Session during a judicial review in October.

A spokesperson from Glasgow City Council has said that the case will be "vigorously contested".
