THREE people were left injured after two building fires within the space of a few hours.

Emergency services descended on a block of flats in the Knightswood area of Glasgow just before 5am this morning.

Mercy crews used an aerial appliance to tackle the blaze on the 22nd floor on Kirkton Avenue, which left two people needing hospital treatment.

Crews remained in attendance by midday.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson confirmed: “Four fire and one aerial appliance were mobilised to the scene, where crews extinguished a fire in a 22nd-floor property.

"There were three casualties passed into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service, two of which required to be transported to hospital.”

The West End fire came just hours after another blaze in the city centre.

During that incident, crews were called to Parnie Street near the Trongate at around 1.35am.

Residents nearby were forced to evacuate while responders dealt with the incident.

It is not yet clear whether anyone was injured as a result of this fire.

The SFRS spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 1.35am on Friday, December 27 to reports of a dwelling fire on Parnie Street, Glasgow.

"Three fire appliances and one aerial appliance were mobilised to the scene where crews extinguished a fire on the second floor within a three-storey building.

"One appliance remains in attendance."

The news comes after fire bosses revealed that 509 incidents were recorded during the festive period in 2018.

The festive period is one of the busiest times of the year for the service - with the increase of accidental house fires typically caused by a higher use of heating and electrical appliances.
