A CYCLIST has been left with a broken collar bone and injuries after he was hit by a vehicle who left the scene. 

Police are investigating the hit and run which happened at around 4.30am on Saturday.

The force said a 53-year-old male cyclist was found lying injured on the roadway in Glasgow Road having been struck by a motor vehicle.

He sustained a broken collar bone and head injuries as a result of the incident.

Neighbours living nearby heard a bang and on looking out observed the victim and his cycle lying in the roadway.

Police investigating said they are unsure about the type of vehicle involved and whether the driver realises they have struck a cyclist. 

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley Police Office, said: "We are unsure at this time what type of vehicle was involved in the accident and it may be that the driver is unaware that he struck the cyclist.

"It is imperative that anyone driving in Glasgow Road around the time in question comes forward if they recall seeing the victim on his bike or if they observed the accident occurring.

"Thankfully the victim appears to be making a good recovery, however, he is still detained in hospital receiving treatment.

"Local Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information regarding the circumstances to contact Police Scotland on telephone number 101 quoting incident number 0781 of the 14th September.

"Alternatively, callers can remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 1111."
