Emergency services have raced to a busy stretch of the M8 after a horror smash involving several cars.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were all called to the scene at Junction 15 Eastbound just after 2.30pm.

It is not yet known if anyone has been hurt.

Four out of five lanes were blocked for around two hours.

Eyewitnesses reported heavy tailbacks on the busy motorway, and Traffic Scotland are warning road users to expect delays.

Drivers were being advised by Traffic Scotland to find alternative routes and avoid the area altogether as they clear the road.

Traffic on the Westbound motorway also slowed down due to people reducing speed to look at the scene.

Just before 5pm Traffic Scotland confirmed that all lanes were back up and running.

However they warned that delays will still be in place as it remains "extremely busy" in the area.

A police spokeswoman has confirmed that police were in attendance at the incident.
