An 87-year-old man has died following a three car smash on the A8 near Port Glasgow yesterday afternoon.

Police Scotland have confirmed around 4.20 pm on Saturday a red Ford Fiesta was traveling westbound on the A8, near to Newark Castle roundabout, when it collided into the rear of a red Volkswagon Touran, which then in turn collided into the rear of a red Jaguar XType vehicle.


Emergency services attended and the driver of the Ford Fiesta, an 87 year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Volkswagon Touran, two woman aged 45 and 75, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

The 75 year-old woman remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 59 year-old man and 58 year-old woman who were within the Jaguar XType were uninjured.

The road was closed for five and a half hours whilst investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney said: "We are trying to establish exactly what happened here and would appeal to anyone who was driving on the A8 near to Newark Castle immediately prior to, or at the time of the incident, who may have information that could help us to contact us.

"We would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage to look back, it may be able to assist us. We urge you to come forward.”
