Veterans will lead the teams on at Ibrox today in a special Armistice Day tribute before Rangers take on Motherwell. 

100 years on since the end of the First World War, the Light Blues will welcome veterans from Erskine, the Coming Home Centre in Govan and Glasgow’s Helping Heroes, as well as representatives from each of the services.

A wreath laying ceremony and a further two minute silence were held at the John Greig statue at 1:30pm, attended by representatives from each of the services, Erskine, Poppyscotland, the Rangers Charity Foundation and Rangers Football Club.

As supporters in the Sandy Jardine Stand take part in a special Remembrance card display immediately prior to kick-off, two veterans will lead the teams out and serving personnel from each branch of the forces will carry a poppy to the centre spot for the minute’s silence.

The Rangers First Team will wear special commemorative poppy shirts in honour of our fallen heroes, the majority of which will be donated to services related charities to raise further funds for serving personnel and veterans.

The Rangers Charity Foundation is once again hosting a can collection today in aid of Poppyscotland, which supports ex-Servicemen and women and their families.

Poppyscotland provides tailored support and funding to thousands of ex-Servicemen and women, as well as other vital services in advice, employment, mobility, respite, housing and mental health support, and is one of the Foundation’s Armed Forces Partners this season.

Gordon Michie, Poppyscotland’s Head of Fundraising, said: “This is clearly a significant moment for the charity and the nation as a whole. It is an opportunity for us all to say ‘thank you’ to the generation who served, sacrificed and changed our world.

“We will never forget, but Poppyscotland will always support those in our Armed Forces community who continue to need help today. We hope supporters will help us by giving generously to our collectors around the stadium.”
