GLASGOW’S planned £100 million Clyde waterfront regeneration project has gathered pace.

Leading property agent Savills has been appointed to the plan, it has been announced.

The 350,000 sq ft Lifestyle Outlets Glasgow Harbour is the next phase of the city’s waterfront regeneration project. It aims to create a major new leisure destination on the banks of the Clyde, as well as thousands of associated retail and construction jobs.

Lifestyle Outlets Glasgow Harbour is set to include over 100 retail stores, 20 restaurants and cafes, a waterfront promenade, a new state-of-the-art multiplex cinema, gym, family leisure facilities, public squares, plus major event space.

With a strong focus on leisure, the development will further enhance the already strong appeal of the West End of the city’s waterfront area which is already home to popular visitor attractions the SSE Hydro, Glasgow Science Centre, Riverside Museum and The Clydeside Distillery.

Adrian Wright, leasing director at Lifestyle Outlets, described how the project will create “a real destination of choice” for the city and its tourist visitors by offering an “excellent mix” of leisure and entertainment underpinned by an exciting retail offering.

It’s estimated that, once complete, the Glasgow Harbour Lifestyle Outlet could generate gross GVA of around £45 million a year for Glasgow’s economy.

The development will create much-needed employment during construction and deliver a further 2,000 retail and leisure jobs when complete in 2021, according to a recent report by Amion Consulting, an economic impact consultancy.

The report also says the scheme has potential to generate up to five million additional visits a year, generating further economic benefit

Planning Permission in Principal was granted in 2008 to rejuvenate the 74-acre site, which is located within the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration Programme.

An Approval of Matters Specified in Condition planning application has been submitted by Glasgow Harbour Ltd on behalf of Peel Lifestyle Outlets - a division of Peel Land and Property Group - a specialist in delivering leisure, retail and activity-focused destinations across the UK.

The first phase of the Glasgow Harbour masterplan was completed by Peel Group in 2008 and involved the construction of 1,100 apartments on the site of the former Meadowside Granary, which was demolished in 2002.

The Glasgow Harbour Masterplan involves a substantial investment in infrastructure, the creation of hundreds of waterfront homes, retail and leisure opportunities, as well as a commercial district.
