A busy road is expected to remain closed overnight as engineers work to fix a burst water main.

Garscube Road, from its junction with Possil Road to the traffic lights at the slip road for the M8 eastbound, has been closed in both directions.

Scottish Water are continuing efforts to fix a fault in a water main which caused chaos for households and commuters on Friday morning.

Homes in Port Dundas, Cowcaddens, Firhill, Sighthill and Maryhill, bore the brunt of the problems while residents in Springburn and Dennistoun also reported changes to their water supply.

Residents experienced a loss of normal water, low pressure and discoloured water following the incident.

Engineers focused on restoring supplies and managed to significantly reduce the number of properties affected by re-zoning the network and bringing in water from adjacent parts of the system.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Water said: "Road users in Glasgow are being advised of a road closure following a burst water main in the Cowcaddens area earlier today, Friday 13 July 2018.

Customers in parts of Glasgow experienced disruption to their normal water supply and while normal supply has resumed for most customers, we are continuing to carry out work on the network to restore supplies fully.

"Road traffic management is in place to allow us to carry out the repair work as quickly and as safely as possible.

The burst occurred on a 36 inch main in Garscube Road, Cowcaddens at around 6.20am this morning.

"Some customers in the affected areas may experience fluctuations in water pressure until the repair is completed.

"A section of Garscube Road, from its junction with Possil Road to the traffic lights at the slip road for the M8 eastbound (near to Corn Street), has been closed in both directions.

"The affected section of road will be reopened as soon as the work is completed and the road reinstated.

"Scottish Water will be working through the night to complete the repair over the next 24 hours.

"Pedestrian access to this section of Garscube Road will be maintained.

"Scottish Water apologises to road users for any inconvenience and thanks them in advance for their patience and co-operation."
