AN EAST End politician has asked the Scottish Government for their view on
whether Parkhead should be the location for a proposed new health and social care hub.
SNP MSP for Glasgow Shettleston Constituency, John Mason, highlighted the wide range of benefits that basing a new hub in Parkhead would bring to those living in the East End and across Glasgow at the Scottish Parliament today.
The proposed hub would include a whole host of services including two GP practices, dental services, district nursing, primary care mental health and psychotherapy, health visiting and school nursing, rehabilitation and enablement services, older people’s mental health services, learning disability services, social work children and family teams, Sandyford East sexual health services, and health and social work addiction services. Alongside this there is the potential for some acute services to also be located at the site in Parkhead.
John Mason MSP said: “For those needing to use any of the services at the proposed hub they would find that Parkhead has some of the best transport links across the East End, with buses such as the number 2, 60, 61, 240, 255 providing a service that would allow patients from across the area to get dropped off outside the hub.
“It is also important to remember the vital impact that basing such a hub in the heart of the East End would have on health outcomes for those living here. A Parkhead based hub would ensure that some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in our city, who are statistically more likely to suffer from complex health conditions, will find it much easier to access the healthcare and services which are key to tackling these conditions.
“I would urge the organisations deciding on the site of this new hub to take all the benefits of Parkhead as a site into consideration when making a final decision.”
