Murder detectives are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in their search for answers over the shooting of a man in Ruchill.

Kenneth Reilly was was shot up to six times while sitting in the passenger seat of a silver BMW on Bilsand Drive on Monday.

The 29-year-old was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following the incident but died less than two days later in hospital.

Police are hunting the balaclava thug who was travelling in a black car which pulled up beside Reilly while he was stopped at traffic lights.

Around four or five shots are said to have been fired at the victim, striking him in the head and body, leaving him fighting for his life in hospital.

It is understood that the decision to switch off his life support machine was taken on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers continue to gather and review CCTV images and carry out door-to-door enquiries for any information which could assist them.

A vehicle, a black people carrier, was recovered from Craigieburn Gardens in Maryhill and is undergoing forensic examination.

Cops believe it is possible that the vehicle was used in the attack.

Despite the vehicle being burnt out, officers believe it will yield forensic opportunities which will assist detectives investigating this murder.

Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham said: “We have received an encouraging response from the local community following our appeal yesterday but I believe there is still a significant amount of information out there which has yet to be passed on to us.

"I am appealing to the public for their co-operation and support as we try to piece together the motive behind this attack which has left a young man dead.

"We continue to pursue all lines of enquiry and ask anyone with information to call us.”

Tributes were posted online for Reilly who was described as a ‘lovely boy, inside and out’.

Well-wishers took to social media to share their condolences with his family.

Arlene Dinnen wrote: “RIP Kenny u were some lad.”

Stephanie Woodside posted: “Absolutely heartbroken, don’t feel like this is real. Thoughts are with my wee bestie & family at this hard time. So proud of Becky and how you’re keeping yourself together.

“Kenny would be so proud. Taken far too soon, don’t know what we’ll do without the pest. Rest easy angel.”

Stacey Luke wrote: “Big hugs and all my love sent your way doll.”

Flowers and Celtic scarves have been left at the site of the shooting.

Reilly is said to have been a close friend of slain Euan Johnston.

The father-of-two was shot at the wheel of his car at traffic lights near Kinning Park in November 2016.

Two men are due to stand trial for the murder of the 26-year-old next week.

Meanwhile, a murder investigation has now been launched for Reilly’s attackers who sped away down Maryhill Road following the shooting.

Road closures put in place on Monday night to assist with police enquiries continued into Wednesday morning causing traffic chaos for commuters.

The blockades between Maryhill Road and Queen Margaret Drive were removed in the afternoon while Bilsland Drive continues to be subject to police closure at Maryhill Road until further notice.

Forensic officers were seen combing the cordoned off area for clues.

Early investigations revealed that the burnt out car had been found shortly after the report of a man being seriously injured came in.

High visibility patrols have been despatched to Ruchill and surrounding areas to reassure residents who have been left fearful after the attack.

An incident caravan has also been set up to encourage residents with concerns to speak to officers after Detective Superintendent Kenny Graham, of Greater Glasgow Division said his team will need the help and support of the local community to find those responsible.

Bob Dorris MSP for Maryhill and Springburn said there must be a much larger police presence on the streets long after the investigation is complete.

He added: “I welcome the increased visible police presence in communities following the terrible shooting on Bilsland Drive.

“Whilst it appears this was a targeted attack, this only partially allays community fears.

Police Scotland will be investigating this shooting vigorously and I am sure they will also share my concerns that we must make sure such shootings are not normalised on our streets.

“Whist this investigation is in its early days, long after it is complete there also needs to be an enhanced and ongoing community police presence.

“I have had a constructive discussion with the local Police Commander along these lines and will have a more substantive meeting with her in the days ahead.”

Maryhill and Summerstoun community council, said: “Having watched the police operation currently underway at the site, we are confident that the police are doing everything in their power to bring the perpetrators to justice

“Obviously a crime of this nature is very concerning, however, gun crime is extremely rare and, as in this case, usually involves drug gangs.
