WELCOME to your new-look, new feel Evening Times.

It’s packed full of the news, sport and features you know and love – but with a fresh modern design for you to enjoy.

In the coming weeks we’ll reveal an exciting new line up of new content tailored to our readers – the people of Glasgow.

From Yoker to Baillieston, and Springburn to Strathbungo, we’ll bring you exclusives, campaigns, events and analysis focused on what matters to you, along with a host of new features to keep you entertained.

We’ll also bring you a daily memories section, looking back at Glasgow’s rich history and even allowing you to send us your own contributions on the city’s heritage.

The Evening Times will shine a spotlight on issues at Glasgow’s heart, and champion what’s great and good about this city through our long-running campaigns including Community Champions and Streets Ahead.

On top of that we have an exciting new line up of columnists, including Libby McArthur, who’ll bring her own comic take on the city’s “good news”, and our own Showbiz Lion Beverly Lyons, who’ll keep you up to date on what’s hot on the Glasgow scene.

And they can’t wait to get started.

Beverley, whose first column can be found in today’s edition, said: “I’m a gal who loves a celebration and I am thrilled to bits to be part of the new-look Evening Times.

“It’s great to be back at Glasgow’s beloved paper (where I first began as a cub reporter) and talking about my wild showbiz and lifestyle adventures.”

Libby, who’ll entertain every Wednesday, said: “I love the slogan ‘People Make Glasgow’ because as far as am concerned, there’s nothing more classy than friendliness. So you can imagine how excited I was to be offered the chance to write a column in Glasgow’s own Evening Times.”

We’ll also keep you informed on politics in the city, with regular contributions from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and council leader Susan Aitken.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who writes every second Tuesday, said: “It’s great that a new-look Evening Times will be hitting our shelves. As a Glasgow MSP, I’m well aware how hard this paper works to keep readers informed – keeping a close eye on national events while never forgetting its Glasgow roots.”

Ms Aitken added: “No-one reflects the challenges, needs and ambitions of Glasgow, its communities and its people better than the Evening Times. Events such as Community Champions and Scotswoman of the Year also celebrate what’s best about this great city.

“As is healthy in any relationship between politicians and the press there are things we will disagree on. But one thing we will always agree on is that we strive for what is best for our city and our people.”

Donald Martin, editor of the Evening Times, said: “I hope you like your new-look Evening Times, with a brighter and better look to match our readers.

“We’re hugely excited by the new-look Evening Times, and hope you will enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.”

We've got your sport covered

Your new look Sport Times is still crammed with the latest news, interviews and analysis of the teams closest to your hearts.

Derek Johnstone and Davie Hay will shoot from the hip on all things Rangers and Celtic, while Chris Jack and Graeme McGarry’s columns will continue to light up our weekend coverage.

SportTimes will be your go-to place for exclusive and extensive coverage of Partick Thistle as they bid to retain their Premiership status. Further back, you can keep up to date with Braehead Clan, Glasgow Warriors and the rest of the cities teams going for glory.

Look out for new features, fresh faces and competitions in the coming months.

Proud history of your campaigning newspaper

THE Evening Times has a long and proud campaigning history.

Just this week, we were recognised for pressuring Scotland’s politicians into making a legislative change which is expected to save dozens more lives every
year.

Last year, the Scottish Government agreed to switch to an opt-out transplant system, following a five-year campaign, led by health reporter Caroline Wilson, which was praised by the SNP MSPs who enacted the change.

The government has pledged to take forward legislation by June and Opt for Life has been shortlisted for Campaign of the Year at this year’s Scottish Press Awards.

In May, last year, we launched a drive to help shed some light on a condition that is predicted to affect one in three of us in future decades.

Our campaign for a Dementia Friendly Glasgow not only raised awareness about the problems families experience in the face of a diagnosis but helped a local charity – Glasgow’s Golden Generation – raise vital funds for a new minibus to transport elderly people affected by the condition to a network of day centres.

Later in the year, efforts by our political correspondent, Stewart Paterson led to a city job centre being saved from the axe, and the Evening Times has in the past tackled unscrupulous factors and hospital closures.

The Evening Times will continue to fight for worthwhile causes and have several hard-hitting launches planned for later in the year.
