SHADE MUNRO believes Glasgow must find an extra 10% if they are to build on last season's charge to the semi-final of the RaboDirect PRO12 and claim a first league title.

The former Scotland lock has been left to hold the fort during the interim period between the departure of former head coach Sean Lineen and the instalment later this week of new gaffer Gregor Townsend.

Munro has admitted that he and Lineen were perhaps lucky to avoid a stay of execution as a coaching partnership when their side followed up their first ever play-off semi-final in 2009/10 with a disastrous third-bottom placing in 2011.

While admitting the controversial manner and timing of Lineen's eventual departure had left him emotional, Munro says the best way to do Lineen's work credit is for Townsend's Glasgow to win something next time around.

The Warriors No.2 said: "Last season was great but to do it justice we need to find that extra 10% that will help us win something next season. The aim last season was to win the PRO12 and we came up just short.

"When you look at how close we pushed Leinster in the play-off semi-final at the RDS then we had improved enormously on two years back when we went to Ospreys and didn't do ourselves justice. But nevertheless we came up short and we have to find that extra 10 per cent that Leinster had over us.

"Whether that is down to mental aspects, physicality or desire who knows, but for us to do the work that Sean has done credit we need to take things on again under Gregor next season."

Looking back at the injury-blighted campaign of 2010/11, Munro said: "There were reasons for us finishing third bottom in 2011. When Scotland came back from the Argentina tour we had seven players on the treatment table and that got a whole lot worse come the Six Nations and quite simply we didn't have the squad to cope with that.

"I know that already in just three weeks we have sold more season tickets than in the whole of last pre-season and that shows the fans are ready to embrace the future. The new season book gives you 14 games for the price of nine and that is just outstanding value especially when you can come along and choose your seat at Scotstoun.

"I would urge fans to make the most of the offer and prepare for a great season ahead."
