Do you have the most primed and pampered pooch? Does your kitten’s whiskers make you melt? Does your bullfrog have the bulgiest eyes? (In all seriousness, we did once have a bullfrog. And it was brilliant.)

The Perfect Pets Competition is for you. If you think you own the most perfect pet – be it cat or dog, rabbit or mouse, hamster or budgie – take a quick snap and send it into the Evening Times, and be in with a chance of winning £1000.

Launching this year at last weekend’s Dog Show in the SEC, the Evening Times had a great look at some of Glasgow’s prettiest pets.

It goes without saying we are a nation of animal lovers, something that Robin Shields, the event manager, said is reflected in the event’s popularity.

“It’s been a great day with a good turn-out,” said Mr Shields.

“It’s good for the family and kids who are all involved in the event.

“There is huge demand for a show like this in the city. It’s quite a niche in Scotland at the moment, and we always get people asking about the future of the shows – to the point where we’re already planning next year’s show. We’re going to have even more features on the stage and interactive goings on for the children.”

Lisa Galziel was at the show with her perfect pooch, Lexie.

“If Lexi was to be in the competition, I think she’d win hands down,” said Lisa.

“The perfect pet depends on the person; everyone has their specific needs. It depends on what commitment you can give to the animals. A variety would be the best, everyone deserves something different.”

Last year’s first place winner was nine-year-old cat Daisy. Catching the eye of the judges with her shiny black fur, Daisy was crowned winner and

champion of the top trophy.

Second place was Fudge Boris, a dog, and third place six-month-old Kevin The Cat.

This year the Perfect Pet competition winner will take home £1000, with the runner-up getting £200 and the third £100.
