UPDATE: The road has now been closed in both directions and water supplies have been disrupted.

A ROAD has been closed for emergency works due to a burst water main.

Cumbernauld Road is shut in the eastbound direction between Gough Street and Gadie Street with no traffic allowed through.

Drivers have been warned to take other routes with no timescale as to when the road will reopen.

Glasgow City Council's roads team said the closure occurred shortly before 8am today.

It added: "Due to emergency works for a bust water main, Cumbernauld Road Eastbound between Gough Street and Gadie Street is currently closed to traffic.

"Closure to remain in place until further notice.

"Road users are advised to consider other routes."

There is no update as to whether the issue will cause problems for the water supply in the area.
